FAQs About Our Compostable Lawn & Leaf Products

How do I properly dispose of yard waste?

Disposing of yard waste can be done efficiently with our compostable lawn & leaf tarp. Simply gather your yard debris on the tarp and then transfer it directly to a compost bin or a designated yard waste disposal area. The tarps are both durable and compostable. So, depending on what’s best for you, reuse them multiple times, or dispose of them in the green bin after each use. Our tarps are designed to support easy transfer without the need for traditional bags, aligning with eco-friendly disposal practices.

How many yard waste bags does one compostable lawn & leaf tarp replace?

Our compostable lawn & leaf tarp is designed to replace the need for multiple traditional yard waste bags. In a single use, our 72″ x 72″ tarp can be expected to hold 2-3 times what a traditional paper bag can hold. If the tarp is reused multiple times, it can transport significantly more than that. This is a huge environmental benefit compared to single use paper bags made from multiple layers of virgin paper.

How long does yard waste take to compost?

Although materials may degrade at different rates, different type of yard waste, as well as food waste, will break down effectively in the allotted time frame of an industrial compost facility.

Are yard waste bags waterproof?

Traditional paper yard waste bags are not waterproof. They will absorb water, which allows everything inside them to get wet and stay wet for longer. Paper bags will also get weaker as they absorb water and the load they are carrying gets heaver. The fabric for our compostable lawn & leaf products is breathable. They are not waterproof, so won’t absorb or trap water inside. So, when they are rained on, they maintain their strength. And, the breathability will allow their contents to dry out over time.

Does yard waste go in compost?

Yard waste is an important part of the composting process that includes both carbon and nitrogen, depending on what is being collected. brown leaves, sticks and wood chips provide carbon to a compost pile, whereas green grass and hedge trimmings provide more nitrogen. Together, carbon and nitrogen materials balance a compost pile to create healthy and effective compost.

What can go in the yard waste bin?

Typically, the yard waste bin can accommodate leaves, grass clippings, branches, weeds, and other garden debris. It is important to avoid placing inorganic materials, such as plastics and metals, into the yard waste bin.

Can yard waste be put in plastic bags for disposal?

You should never collect yard waste in a plastic bag. If you do, that bag will have to be removed by the compost facility and sent to a landfill. Our compostable lawn & leaf tarp offers a sustainable alternative, allowing you to collect and dispose of yard waste without contributing to plastic pollution.

Are these bags certified compostable, and by which standards?

Yes, our Compostable Lawn & Leaf bags are certified compostable through BPI, North America’s leading authority on compostable products & packaging. We are also approved through the CMA, who focuses on the field testing of compostable products.

Food loss and waste occur at each stage of the supply chain. The biggest proportion (about 37%) happens in the home.
