80%+ Participation. Less Than 1% Contamination.

When the Town of Gibsons, BC set out to launch a residential food scraps collection program, they built a winning team: composter Salish Soils, hauler Grayco Disposal, and EcoSafe Zero Waste as products supplier and program developer. Launched in April 2019, the program was built on EcoSafe's "Easy as 1-2-3" collection standard with zero tolerance for contamination and a focus on changing household habits from day one.

The results were remarkable: within the first six weeks, participation exceeded 80% and contamination came in well under 1%, with both metrics continuing to improve through 2020. Industry experts have since flagged the Gibsons model as rare in the industry for its performance levels and low implementation costs, making it a blueprint for organic collection programs in small communities across North America.
